Meanwhile, Quinte West OPP officers are enjoying their new duties patrolling the stretch of Highway 401 from Highway 37 in Belleville to the border with Northumberland County, west of Trenton.
Quinte West OPP Commander Inspector Christina Reive says even though the detachment has only been working 401 for the past month it’s become evident there’ll be no shortage of work for officers assigned to the highway.
Besides the usual radar setups, the detachment has received 158 calls from drivers, most of them making complaints about other drivers.
People are quick to use their cell phones to tell OPP about aggressive or erratic drivers, and also about those they suspect are distracted or impaired.
