There is a new art gallery in Prince Edward County.
Last night a reception was held to kick start the “Am I a Jock?” Maison Depoivre art gallery which celebrates positive men’s masculinity in our society and deals with important issues that men face.
The gallery was founded in 2013 by Christophe Doussout and Vincent Depoivre, two Frenchmen who moved to Prince Edward County from France.
On display are hand-knitted unique jock straps for men that are intended to spread awareness while activating a creative, non-stereotypical look on how men are perceived.
In 2017, the gallery was relocated in a historical barrack of Camp Picton, a World War II airport located in Prince Edward County. Many original elements of the barrack have been preserved. The outcome is a minimalist space where shapes, colours and textures fully come to life.
Orlena Cain spoke with Doussout last night at the event about the concept of “Am I a Jock?”
The gallery will be open for the next five weeks until October 21. You can check it out between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday to Monday.
