The regular season is barely underway but the Trenton Golden Hawks have home ice advantage to start the first three weeks of the season and they plan on using it.
Trenton was at home on Friday night to the St. Michael’s Buzzers and were looking to improve upon their current 1-1 record in OJHL regular season action.
St. Michael’s opened the scoring not even five minutes into the first period, taking away some of the enthusiasm shown by the hometown fans.
The Golden Hawks weren’t to be outdone and put things back on an even playing field less than a minute later when Jared Gerger found the back of the net to tie the game at a goal apiece.
Dalton Bancroft then beat Sebastian Labora at the 12:38 mark of the first to give the Golden Hawks their first lead of the game.
The momentum was short lived, a the Buzzers came back minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.
The Buzzers came back into the second period with some spark and took their second lead of the game, beating Anand Oberoi for the third time in less than 22 minutes.
Bancroft beat Labora for the second time, tying the game once again at 3-3, at the eight minute mark of the period.
That score held through the final 20 minutes of play and five minutes of 4-on-4 overtime.
Griffen Fox was the overtime hero as he found the puck on his stick and a clear shot at Labora and didn’t miss his mark for the 4-3 final.
Trenton is back in action on Sunday night at home when they host the Pickering Panthers.
