They’ve come a long way, but there is still a ways to go.
Prince Edward County has shown their support for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build project and on Thursday, Foundation Executive Director Shannon Coull provided an update on the hospital expansion.
She said there is a lot of good news right now even if they happen to be in a hurry up and wait position currently.
Coull told council at the committee of the whole meeting at Shire Hall they are waiting on the provincial government to approve the second stage of their plan.
Mayor Steve Ferguson told Quinte News things are going in the right direction and with the proposal being in the hands of the Treasury Board, he’s hoping things continue to move along.
He says the update from the Foundation is important because the County has made a commitment to the Foundation with a significant financial contribution to make this project happen.
The Hospital Foundation has a goal of raising $16.5 million by 2025 for this project and they have currently raised $11 million.
Coull says while they have gone past the halfway mark, they need the community to continue to support the project.
She told councillors at Shire Hall they do have some donors waiting in the wings that are waiting on Phase 3 of the project. Coull says that part of the project means the hospital build is on the province’s books and the province has started planning for this expense.
