Every community has a heritage and every community has an interesting past and hidden jewels and the City of Belleville is no exception,
And on Saturday, September 21 residents and visitors alike will be more than welcome to tour important buildings, businesses, and institutions as Heritage Belleville presents the eighteenth annual Doors Open Belleville event.
Doors Open will feature 18 venues this year and city councillor Paul Carr stressed the importance of conserving important heritage features in a community and educating people about the past. He thanked the many volunteers working with Heritage Belleville and the Doors Open event.
His remarks were echoed by Heritage Belleville media coordinator Jeremy Davis who said preserving heritage buildings was important but the effort to do so would be mostly wasted if people weren’t encouraged to learn about their community’s history.
Venues this year are the Belleville and District Shrine Club, City Hall, Belleville Public Library (scavenger hunt, community archives), Children’s Safety Village, Corby Park Rose Garden, Dinkel’s Restaurant, Ekort Realty, Glanmore National Historic Site (Unmasking Influenza), Hastings and Prince Edward Regimental Museum, Henry’s Place (Signal Brewery), Islamic Society of Belleville, Loyalist College Digital Media Centre, 91 x Radio and Parrott Library, Parrott Riverfront Trail, She Thrives Wellness Centre, St. Thomas Anglican Church, and Cogeco Your TV studios.
Doors Open Belleville is one of 36 such events held across the province from April until November.
