A long standing name and logo for minor hockey teams in Brighton could be changing soon.
At its meeting tonight (Tuesday) Brighton council will discuss removing all references and symbols that have an Indigenous theme.
The Ontario Human Rights Commission has contacted the Municipality of Brighton and others about the “harmful impact of Indigenous-themed sports logos in municipal facilities”.
The Brighton Minor Hockey Association has long used the name Brighton Braves for some of its teams.
Meanwhile, the executive of the hockey association has already been discussing a logo change and possible name change.
