UPDATE FROM CITY OF QUINTE WEST: 5:15 p.m.
A father and his 5-year-old daughter are in Kingston Hospital.
- Two others were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital. It’s unclear whether the young male gas attendant had to go to hospital.
- Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says people from the Quinte area were involved.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., a 34-foot-long cruiser caught fire near the Veteran’s Skyway Bridge after getting gas at the Trent Port Marina fueling station. The five people who were on board and one marina staff member are being treated for their injuries at hospitals in Trenton and Kingston.
The Quinte West Fire department was able to extinguish the fire, however, the boat sank.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who were injured in this terrible accident,” says Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “We are working to remove the boat from the river and to resume normal operations at the fueling station as soon as possible.”
The city has already contacted officials at the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Environment. Arrangements have been made to clean up the spilled fuel and remove the boat from the river.
The Trent Port Marina fueling station is currently closed, but will reopen as soon as possible.
