The Cobourg Police Service recently reported that several parking meters had been vandalized. The meters had either been completely removed or only the mechanism that holds the coin was vandalized.
In the early hours of Thursday, August 29, 2019, uniform patrol officers and members of the Criminal Investigations Branch were actively patrolling the downtown area in an attempt to locate and arrest those responsible for the thefts and damage of the parking meters. At approximately 1:15 a.m., officers observed a man discard a suitcase in the Queen Street and McGill Street area. Officers checked inside the suitcase and located parts and pieces to several parking meters.
Thirty-eight-year-old William Hadley of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Theft Under $5000
- Mischief Under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Hadley was held for a bail hearing scheduled for later today and additional charges may be forthcoming.
