Recent information from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) confirms what many have long suspected and that is that Brighton is
for all intents and purposes a “bedroom community”.
Mayor of Brighton Brian Ostrander says statistics from MPAC show that 90% of local tax revenue comes from the residential sector, leaving just 10% coming from either the commercial or industrial sectors.
The average split province-wide is 70% residential and 30% commercial/industrial.
Ostrander says council is determined to increase industrial and commercial business in Brighton to ease the burden on homeowners.
Council has already authorized work to improve its industrial park.
And recently Brighton has joined with the Quinte Economic Development Commission and the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board and continues
working with the Northumberland Economic Development department.
