It’s a battle between the regular season’s top two seeded teams in the South Hastings Baseball League finals, with the Thornton Portt Memorial Trophy on the line.
The defending champion Bain Excavating Rockies continued their league dominance last night (Friday) with an 8-7 walk-off victory over the Melrose Shamrocks to advance to the final for a second straight season.
Grahme Fox recorded the win pitching four plus innings in relief, giving his Rockies a chance to win the ball game. In the bottom of the 1oth inning, Ben Popovich answered the bell with a bases loaded single through the left side of the infield to win the game and the series.
Brad Limin had a strong game going 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBI before exiting the ball game with an injury. Ty Green was 3-5 at the plate while Brent Bain picked up two hits.
The final will see the Rockies take home-field advantage against Maclan Designs who also won a game 7 on Thursday night 9-3 over Uens Poles.
Things are tentatively set to kick-off in Melrose on Monday. The series is a best-of-seven.
