The battle of Quinte returned last night on the OJHL circuit, albeit in pre-season action.
It was the Wellington Dukes that came out on top of the Trenton Golden Hawks 6-3 at the Duke dome in Wellington.
The Dukes opened up the game with three unanswered first period goals and never looked back.
Evan Miller netted a hat-trick in the winning effort while returnees Dan Panetta, Frank Vittuci and Ben Woodhouse each added a goal. Matt Kealy back stopped the Dukes making 27 saves on 30 shots.
The Golden Hawks split the crease, going to newcomer and former Whitby Fury Oliver Troop to start the game. Troop allowed four goals on 18 shots. Michael Heward came in and made 16 saves on 18 shots to close out the game.
Aaron Jamison, Jacob Gilbert and Dylan McMahon scored for the Golden Hawks who were out-shot 36-30 in the contest.
Both teams each scored two power-play goals.
The two teams will play once more in pre-season play on Friday, August 30 before the regular season kicks off on home ice September 6 for both clubs.
The first regular season match-up between the two rivals isn’t until Sunday, September 22 in Trenton.
