On Thursday August 22, 2019 shortly after 9 p.m., members of the Northumberland Detachment of the OPP along with emergency personnel, responded to a collision on Highway 401 east at Hamilton Road east of Port Hope, involving a tractor trailer and three passenger vehicles.
Six people were transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment. One of those people, a 55-year-old female, was then transported by air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Port Hope and Cobourg were closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
The Ministry Of Environment attended the scene to address the leakage of diesel fuel that occurred as a result of the collision.
The highway reopened Friday morning
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
