This morning (Thursday) at the Trent Port Marina in Quinte West, Mayor Jim Harrison and members of City Council officially broke ground on a new waterfront trail in Quinte West.
The trail will start at Quinte West City Hall and stretch 1.45 km along the waterfront to the Millenium Trail at Dufferin Avenue.
The asphalt-paved trail will be accessible to all and incorporate solar lighting, trailhead markers, bicycle racks and garbage disposals. There will be a picnic area near the Trent Port Marina with accessible picnic tables. Two fitness pods with outdoor exercise equipment will also be located along the new trail.
The Director of Planning and Development Services with the City of Quinte West, Brian Jardine explains who this new trail extension will impact the most.
A portion of the funding for this project is being provided by the Province of Ontario through the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program. The equipment in the fitness pods is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Trenton.
Activating Quinte West’s waterfront area has been one of the top priorities for the city over the past couple of years and this new trail extension aims to add to that idea. Activating the waterfront will improve the life of people in the community, people visiting the community and the overall image of Quinte West.
Van Soelen Landscaping and Wentworth Landscaping have teamed up to architect the project. Construction of the trail will begin on August 20, and continue through mid-November.
