Pearson says architects have included multi-family residential housing at the north end of the residential portion of the property, as opposed to their bread and butter of single family homes.
He says their goal is to see some much needed development in the west-end of Quinte West, which will enhance residential growth along while providing significant employment and investment opportunities.
The commercial portion of the property is approximately 12.5 acres, with six acres of zoned residential land along the north end of the Appledene subdivision.
They are exploring the possibility of a seniors housing development, a branded hotel, commercial office use, mixed commercial, retail and residential uses.
It was also announced the Quinte West Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee is exploring Staikos Commons as the location for a new state of the art medical facility.
Pearson said he was thrilled to have something as important as their understanding with the Doctor Recruitment and Retention Committee to kick start this project as the committee is exploring space within one of the proposed buildings to provide space for their operation.
Wendy Warner, Executive Director of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation says they are thrilled with this understanding.
She says they are looking for the space to house 20 doctors, as they’ve outgrown their space on Catherine Street for the Lakeview Family Health Team.
Warner says this opportunity will allow for physicians to buy into the facility and become owners, providing a very strong retention benefit for Quinte West residents.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison told those in attendance he is proud of what this company has done as Staikos has an unblemished reputation and that is something to be proud of.
He says they are still in the very early stages of the process but the City has given permission for one home to be built as long as the developer has all of their other pieces properly in place.
Pearson joked that when Nick (Staikos) wants to move on something, he moves and told those in attendance that the road will probably be started once the announcement event wrapped up as a backhoe was working in the background behind the announcement location.
Bette Jean Crews and Colin Crews the Third, the former owners of this parcel of land were on hand for the announcement and said this would have made their father in law and great grandfather, respectively, very proud because Colin, would have wanted something special on this property and he would have also been proud of how the family got to today and this point with the land.
Bette Jean noted they had numerous offers on the land but held on for the right project and Nick Staikos will bring that vision to reality.
