The future of Belleville’s Pop-Ups on the Bay project has taken a turn.
At Monday night’s meeting, city council voted down a proposal to spend $20,000 to hire a consultant to do a development plan which would recommend best locations, and to consider more permanent shipping containers serving as pop-up shops.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk said there has to be better promotion, especially to attract tourists, and the entrepreneurs themselves have to participate.
Panciuk tells Quinte News locations such as the parking lot across from city hall and parking lots on the waterfront trail could be considered as locations next year.
He also indicated the International Joint Commission has been in touch with the city regarding possibly dealing with the water level issues on Lake Ontario which caused flooding this year.
Council also decided to allow the pop-Ups to cut their hours during the final weeks of operation at West Riverside Park this summer.
