Belleville city council will be asked to set the stage for a worthwhile new memorial in the city at its
meeting Monday afternoon.
Council will decide on the approval of the terms of reference for a committee tasked with coming up with a suitable memorial honouring the Belleville Yardmen.
The Yardmen, a group formed in the 1960s by CN Rail employees quickly raised over $5 million through lottery ticket sales and other means, and brought the Belleville Yardmen Sports Complex to fruition.
The group working on the project will be known as the CNR Yardmen Memorial Committee.
Any memorial would be placed near what was known as the Yardmen arena.
