Ontario has nominated two Quinte West Transit corridor projects under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Project (ICIP) transit stream.
In Trenton on Tuesday, Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced that the provincial government will commit to fund up to $255,912 for the service expansion of Quinte Access and an additional $86,241 for technological upgrades.
The transit project will go both east toward Belleville and west toward Brighton with the idea of connecting Quinte West to surrounding communities for educational, employment and medical purposes.
Jim Harrison, mayor of Quinte West says this will help connect the community.
Quinte Access and Quinte West officials say a dedicated route to Belleville will have access to Loyalist College, Belleville General Hospital and retailing areas for employment purposes.
Smith explains how all three levels of governments are chipping in to make this project work.
The municipality and Quinte Access are already on board with the project expansion and are now just waiting for the federal government to chip in with their portion of the costs.
