Belleville firefighters, police and Hastings-Quinte paramedics are on the scene of a serious house fire in east end Belleville this morning (Saturday).
Emergency responders arrived around 2:30 to find an older two-storey brick house up in flames at 190 Dundas Street East which is close to TSC Stores plaza.
There were two apartments in the house and the people living in the bottom floor unit escaped safely. However, at least two people were said to be in the upstairs apartment.
Witnesses at the scene said one person climbed out an upper side window and used a tree to climb to the ground. At least one person was rushed to hospital early on.
There were multiple ambulances on scene.
At the time of this publication firefighters were still dealing with flare-ups.
The Ontario Fire Marshal and Forensic Investigation Unit are being called into investigate.
