Kirsten Pemberton appeared at a Napanee court Wednesday for her sentencing after pleading guilty to causing her own child’s death more four-years ago.
The 27-year old Pemberton who plead guilty in mid-June was handed a one-year conditional sentence with no jail time and two years of probation.
According to Global News Kingston, Justice Graeme Mew showed compassion for Pemberton, who claimed she was suffering from severe mental health issues at the time of the incident.
Mew added that he believed a lengthy term of imprisonment would be “redundant.”
During the 12 months when Pemberton is serving her sentence, she will have to: stay at a residence approved by a supervisor, continue mental health treatment, continue taking her medication, complete 120 hours of community service, and maintain her counseling services.
