Belleville council has rejected a recommendation from its Planning Advisory Committee and said no to a rezoning which would have allowed 10 residential units in the form of five semi-detached homes at 427 Farnham Road near a proposed roundabout.
While planning staff said the development which has undergone multiple modifications met planning criteria, most on council said it was the wrong idea in the wrong place.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk.
Residents living on nearby Moira Lea Court have strenuously objected to any development on the strip of land.
Voting in favour of rejecting the rezoning application were councillors Sandison, Carr, Culhane, Kelly, Malette, McCaw, and Mayor Panciuk. In favour of allowing the development were councillors Williams and Thompson.
The developer has the option of appealing to the the province’s Land Planning Appeal Tribunal.
