A Belleville resident hopes Belleville council will pass a by-law making developers plant at least one tree per new housing or commercial/industrial lot.
Jeffrey Caulfield cited the city’s own information saying that Belleville had lost 15% of its tree canopy in the past 15 years.
Caulfield reminded council that trees produce oxygen and are basic to the needs of life on the planet.
He said council should follow the lead of many of other communities and mandate the planting of one tree per new lot by developers saying Belleville was a growing city and it should also be made a more desirable city.
