Belleville’s downtown trolley service is returning to the city this summer beginning at 6 p.m., tonight (July 5).
It is the second consecutive year for the trolley service which allows residents and tourists to explore Belleville’s downtown and waterfront areas while having a safe ride to and from the desired locations.
There have been some changes made this year compared to last. The trolley will focus more on weekend life around the city, operating Friday through Sunday until September 1. Having just a weekend route will allow the trolley to stay open later at night according to Belleville’s development and tourism coordinator, Elisha Purchase.
The trolley transit service is free to the public through sponsors making it the only transit service in the city not reliant on taxpayer dollars. This year the service is sponsored by Ramada by Wyndham Belleville, Boathouse Seafood Restaurant, The Pier Patio and BBQ, Paulo’s & Dinkel’s Restaurant, Williams Hotels, Comfort Inn, Shorelines Casino, Quinte Mall, Belleville Downtown Improvement Area, Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board and the newest addition – Signal Brewing Company.
Purchase says that they worked hard with sponsors this year to improve the trolley system.
The trolley will run an hour-long route beginning at the Ramada by Wyndham with stops at Meyers Pier, the Boathouse, Downtown Belleville District, Belleville Visitors Centre, North Front Street participating hotels, Shorelines Casino, Signal Brewery and back to the downtown area for a second stop before starting the route again from the beginning.
