The press release from Northumberland County is below.
Northumberland County staff have begun the delivery of the new blue and grey bins for the dual-stream “Recycle Right” program, set to launch in September 2019. The new bins are being dropped off at the end of residents’ driveways between now and the end of August.
Each household will receive one blue bin and one grey bin, labelled with the accepted materials for each bin, as well as brochures inside the bins that provide instructions and information about the program. “The delivery of the Recycle Right bins marks an exciting step toward the launch of our new waste diversion programs this fall,” states Director of Transportation, Waste and Facilities Mobushar Pannu. “These programs will further reduce the quantity of materials destined for our landfill, and increase the quality and value of recyclable material for resale, the revenues from which can then be reinvested into services for our residents.” Starting September 3, 2019, the new green bin organics program and Recycle Right program will be in effect. Residents will be asked to separate their recycling by sorting containers into the blue bin and paper materials into the grey bin. In addition, with the green bin program expected to divert approximately 60% of household waste, the number of curbside garbage bags accepted weekly will decrease from three bags per household to two bags. Green bins will be delivered to residents by waste collection staff in August. Starting September 2019, additional recycling bins will be available for purchase for $6 from the Northumberland County office at 555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg. |
