The Field of Ability project held its official ground breaking ceremony this afternoon at Parkdale Veterans Park.
The community has been working relentlessly over the past year to raise money for the initiative and now it is finally underway.
The Field of Ability will give children with disabilities an opportunity to play baseball among other sports in a very accessible way.
Breaking ground on the project first was the mayor of Belleville, Mitch Panciuk who says this is exactly what the community needs.
Panciuk adds that the initiative surpassed its goal for funding which will allow this field to become world-class.
Task Force Engineering is donating their work to the project and will now begin building. Peter Kempenaar from Task Force says that they are going to get right at it.
The project has not only received community funding but also provincial including contributions from the Jays Care Foundation and Kraft Heinz project play.
