Wind turbines and climate change
Members of council in Prince Edward County heard from a number of residents about how the municipality needs to take another look a wind turbines.
Jennifer Ackerman, Don Chisholm and Rod Holloway were just a few of the many people who spoke on Thursday at Shire Hall during a Committee of the Whole meeting, about looking back on council’s previous decision to be an unwilling host for wind turbines.
Former councillor David Harrison spoke and said they need to make the change to willing host because it would be irresponsible to ignore the evidence in front of them.
AEDs in municipal facilities
Councillor Phil St-Jean requested a staff report come forward in regards to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in municipal facilities.
He stated during the Committee of the Whole meeting, the North Marysburg Town Hall does not have an AED and he wants to know just how many municipal facilities are in the same position.
St-Jean says many of their residents are elderly and it is important there be access to these life saving devices.
He also requested as part of his motion, the report identify which facilities should be equipped with AEDs.
Staff to revisit patio by-law
Staff in Prince Edward County have been asked to take another look at their outdoor patio by-law.
Councillor Phil Prinzen stated he wants to see it looked at in order to get parking back, which would support all downtown businesses, not just the ones with patios.
Councillor Mike Harper agreed stating the outdoor patios are a ‘hazard’.
Acting CAO Robert McAuley thought a review was in order, noting the discussion in 2014 regarding outdoor patios was long-debated.
Director of Community Development Neil Carbone noted the by-law may just need some tweaks instead of scrapping the by-law entirely and making outdoor patios illegal.
Council also requested the business associations in Wellington and Picton be consulted as a part of the staff report.
