In 11 months, one seniors group in Prince Edward County has garnered interest from 200 seniors and they want to keep the momentum going.
Director of the Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association Pronica Janikowski spoke during the Committee of the Whole meeting on Thursday afternoon at Shire Hall about support for the Mobile County Seniors Centre program.
They requested $5,000 in cash and over $20,000 in kind for use of municipal facilities.
It was also requested the group have council’s support through to 2022.
She told those in council chambers, the commitment to the group was originally made in 2017 but the funds didn’t come through from the higher levels of government until July of 2018.
Since then, the group has provided over 1,800 hours of programing for seniors and is gearing up for their second annual seniors fair in October.
Janikowski says the support from the municipality sets the stage for future success for the Seniors Centre.
Council approved the motion and it will move to the July 9 council meeting for final approval.
