When it comes to treatment of strokes Quinte Health Care medical staff and management have reason to be proud of their achievements but they won’t be happy yet.
According to statistics in the 2017/18 Ontario Stroke Report Card, people suffering from a modest stroke make the most improvement per day in the care of QHC than anywhere else in the province.
And, Quinte Health Care is best in Ontario when it comes to co-locating stroke patients in an acute stroke unit, a situation that will only improve with the recent opening of the Integrated Stroke Unit.
Also, those suffering from stroke are moved from acute care to rehabilitation more quickly than anywhere else in the province.
The President of Quinte Health Care Mary Clare-Egberts says another area its doing well is the average time that it takes for a stroke patient to receive an all-important clot busting injection which is 45 minutes. That compares very well to other hospitals but the medical staff aims to improve that even more, shooting for a time of 30 minutes.
There are several areas on the Stroke Report Card that QHC scores well on.
