The NHL draft wrapped up in Vancouver this weekend with the Ottawa Senators holding a six-pack of picks. You could see two of them in a Belleville Senators sweater this season including first rounder Lassi Thompson.
Although only 18 years old, there are options for the high scoring defenceman from the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets. Thompson scored 17 goals and 41 points. He could return to junior hockey, play in his native Finland or come to Belleville.
More likely you will see the Senators’ fifth round pick in the American Hockey League next season. Twenty-year-old centre Mark Kastelic finished his overage season with the Calgary Hitmen where he was captain. Kastelic had his best year offensively with 47 goals and 30 assists.
Wellington Dukes defenceman Zac Uens was not selected on Saturday however the 18-year-old Belleville native still received a phone call. Uens has been invited to the Development Camp of the Las Vegas Golden Knights which starts tomorrow through Saturday.
Uens will be attending Merrimack College in North Andover Massachusetts in the fall.
And former Belleville Bulls star defenceman and Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban is now a New Jersey Devil. He was traded by Nashville on Saturday.
