The City of Belleville will vote on a resolution to stop adherence to an international flood control system known as Plan 2014 at its meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Councils in the City of Quinte West, Prince Edward County, and the Municipality of Brighton have already passed a resolution asking that the International Joint Commission and the Federal Government abandon the plan.
Flooding along Lake Ontario in this area has been even worse than in 2017 which was considered the worst in over 100 years and damage has been considerable and costs to businesses and municipalities astronomical.
The resolution calls for an immediate study of this year’s flood and that of 2017, pointing to better ways of handling water levels in the Lake Ontario/St. Lawrence River System.
