In the late afternoon on June 16, 2019 at approximately 3:57 p.m., officers of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 118, north of Thunderbird Drive, in the Municipality of Highlands East.
Bancroft and Haliburton OPP officers attended with Haliburton County Paramedic Services, Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services and Highlands East Fire Department and located a motorcycle that was destroyed by fire and the driver suffering life threatening injuries. The passenger of the motorcycle was suffering non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 118 between Monck Road and Loop road was closed for approximately 10 hours as members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene to determine the cause of the collision.
Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle were taken to Bancroft Hospital and the driver was flown by ORNGE AIR to another hospital due to his injuries.
The cause of the collision is under investigation and further information will be made available.
