The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board’s Budget Committee could recommend a 2019/20 budget for the approval of the board tonight.
School Board staff is presenting an operating budget totalling close to $203 million and a capital budget of almost $27 million to the committee tonight.
The budget features a small $20,000 surplus.
Last year’s operating budget was close to $204 million.
Enrolment in the 40 schools operated by the Hastings Prince Edward board isn’t changing much and classroom staffing will remain the same as last school year.
There would be a small reduction in support staff if the budget is finally passed.
As far as capital spending is concerned, the largest single project is the new Easthill Elementary School at the site of the former Queen Elizabeth School. The budget
contains $6.4 million to build the school, which will be an amalgamation of Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria schools.
