A farmer living in the far north of Quinte West wants council’s support in a battle with Parks Canada.
Fred Keating told Quinte West council that Parks Canada has ignored a petition from farmers working in the area around Glen Ross asking that it remove two 10 x 10 so called “bumper beams” from the Glen Ross swing bridge.
Keating says the bumper beams shorten the width of the bridge by four feet and won’t allow farmers to drive their equipment over it, forcing them to waste time and money going around and through Frankford to conduct business.
Keating says farmers always used the bridge but the beams were put in with the recent upgrades to it. The beams have no structural value.
Council sent the issue to its Public Works Committee to take the matter up with Parks Canada.
