A third-time, revised, smaller plan to develop townhouses in Belleville’s Thurlow Ward is now making its way through the city’s planning process.
This proposal to build townhouses at 427 Farnham Road, near the city’s first roundabout, was introduced at Monday night’s Planning Committee meeting.
It has 10 one-storey houses, rather than 13 two-storey ones in the original design.
Eight people spoke against the development, expressing concerns about sight levels, potential water runoff issues and traffic.
Diane Turrell pointed to the two-car garages in the project which meant an extra 20 cars of traffic near the city’s first roundabout.
Brian Boulay told the committee, “It looks pretty crammed to me.” He also questioned the traffic situaton for pedestrians at the roundabout.
John Scott said the roundabout guarantees an accident and is “a lawsuit waiting to happen.”
Tammy Robson had a number of concerns, including the fact the swales could fill with water and flood the nearby homes.
She also had traffic concerns.
Planning Chair Councillor Paul Carr tells Quinte News four traffic studies have been carried out and would not comment on suggestions by some speakers that there might be a “conflict” regarding some studies.
The company says it has addressed concerns of residents on Moira Lee Court about intensification, privacy, and sight-lines.
Planning Committee received the report and instructed staff to bring a final report on the project to a future meeting.
