City of Belleville planning staff are recommending approval of a rezoning application to allow a methadone clinic to operate in an existing building at 125 South Church Street, just south of Dundas East.
Recently the application was met with considerable opposition from business owners and residents operating and living nearby as they had concerns about garbage, crime and traffic.
The proposed clinic would take up 4,000 square feet of the 12,000 square foot building. The current clinic downtown would move its operation to South Church should the planning committee and council ultimately approve the rezoning.
Staff says concerns about garbage and security can be handled through a site plan agreement and that the application meets all of the requirements for approval.
