If you have any interest at all in your community and this area you won’t want to miss a special event coming next week on June 5 at the Empire Theatre in downtown Belleville.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Community Development Council of Quinte has a world renowned expert on building better communities as the feature speaker.
Gord Hume is recognized as one of Canada’s leading voices on municipal government, sustainable urban development, cultural planning, and creative cities. He is a respected author and commentator on local government and community issues.
The Executive Director of the Community Development Council of Quinte Ruth Ingersoll is thrilled that Hume will make a presentation locally.
“Mr. Hume graciously discounted his speaking fee significantly to come here and share his knowledge. We could never have afforded such a top-notch speaker otherwise. We have so much going for us in this area and recently a lot has been happening that is making the area an even better place to be but we have issues as almost every Ontario community has. Gord Hume has traveled the world and he’ll be sharing success stories and ideas that we could use to our benefit making a stronger community. This event won’t be a dry lecture about poverty or housing problems and it’s not going to be an attack on one socio-economic group or another. It will be a wide-ranging discussion that we think will inspire people to get involved in making our community and area a better place to live. Mr. Hume will be taking questions after his formal presentation.”
Tickets can be purchased on the Empire Theatre website or free tickets can be had by calling the Community Development Council of Quinte at 613-968-2466. Donations will be gratefully accepted with all proceeds supporting the CDC.
“Our services and programs are open to anyone, rich, poor, or in between. If you can’t afford tickets, we’ll offer free ones. If you can only afford a $10 donation, that’s fine. This is our way of giving back to the communities that give to us and we wouldn’t want to exclude anyone from what will be an inspiring evening.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. for a mingle featuring snacks and a cash bar. The event itself will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday June 5.
