(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On May 15, 2019 at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Quinte West Fire and Hastings Quinte Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a collision involving an OPP cruiser at Dundas Street East and Byron Street in the City of Quinte West.
The subdued marked OPP cruiser was travelling east on Dundas Street East with emergency lighting and sirens when it entered the intersection at Byron Street. A passenger vehicle travelling north on Byron Street was also entering the intersection at the same time and struck the cruiser on the passenger side causing it to lose control and collide with a third vehicle which was stopped at the intersection facing west.
No injuries were reported resulting from the collision.
Dundas Street East was closed for approximately three hours due to the collision.
On May 23, 2019 Provincial Constable Amanda O’Donnell, of the Ontario Provincial Police was charged with Red Light – Fail to Stop contrary to section 144 (18) Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
