Belleville city council will be asked to sign off on some “big toys for big boys” deals at its meeting this afternoon (Monday).
Belleville Transit is asking that council buy four new buses at a total cost of $3.1 million. City taxpayers would be on the hook for just $846,000 of that.
The fleet needs to grow because of extra transit routes and expanded hours of operation.
Meanwhile, the city’s fire department is in need of an up to date first response aerial ladder truck. The current one is 20 years old and is at the end of its useful life.
The department has selected an almost new “show” vehicle at a cost of $1.1 million, which is under budget.
Council meets at 4 o’clock this afternoon at city hall.
