These estimates don’t include inflation and the increase in the cost of construction from 2017 figures (3.5% per year for up to four to five years).
It doesn’t include the cost of repairing the roofing design, including insulation and vapor barrier, unknown restoration of exterior brick work, and the unknown restoration of exterior walkways and sidewalks.
Councillor Chris Malette said that despite a small number of people wanting it for an ice facility, “That ship has sailed.”
Councillor Pat Culhane told council the old arena “has such history personally and for the community, but for the few people in the community who have tried long and hard to bring it back as an arena, I’m sorry that they will be disappointed. However, they are not in the chair safe guarding as best we can the funds the taxpayers give us to spend. We simply cannot spend that kind of money.”
If that fails, then the arena would be opened up to investors for other uses.
