Hastings County is calling on the federal government to come up with its contribution toward the proposed new Eastern Ontario Regional Network Mobile Broadband project.
In its special resolution on Thursday, the county asks the federal government to formally commit $71 million towards the project, pointing out that the province committed to that same amount in an announcement last week, and municipalities have already pledged $10 million.
The resolution makes clear this should be done “before the House of Commons rises in June.”
CAO Jim Pine tells Quinte News the Mobile Broadband project is is an important part of the network.
The resolution also notes the local federal Members of Parliament will be asked for support in obtaining the federal contribution.
Pine says if the federal money is received, it would take three or four years to complete the project.
