The Ottawa Senators’ search for a new head coach is over.
The Sens have given former Toronto Maple Leafs assistant D.J. Smith a 3-year contract.
Smith spent four seasons as an assistant on Mike Babcock’s staff in Toronto. Prior to that he was head coach of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals winning a Memorial Cup in 2015.
There has been no announcement regarding Smith’s coaching staff yet, however it’s believed Belleville Senators head coach Troy Mann will get consideration along with former B-Sen Chris Kelly.
