Belleville Transit fares are going up on July 1.
Manager of Transit Operations Paul Buck says staff and Council looked hard at the increase, which is the first for the transit system since 2015 and says the jump is necessary, but won’t be excessive.
The basic fares for adults and students in college, elementary and high schools will go up 50 cents, to $3 per ride, while special reduced fares, seniors and child rates won’t change.
Buck tells Quinte News there are a number of reasons that council has approved the fare jump.
He adds that there are also some technological improvements and upgrades being made across the system as well, which will need to be funded by the extra cash.
