Work on Belleville’s new police station continues at a good pace.
The new station is being built in what was the Belleville Water and Veridian Connects building at the corner of College and Sidney streets.
The interior has been demolished and an addition is being built.
The city’s Special Projects Manager Joel Carr-Braint says the station will include a number of special areas, such as for drug storage.
The building will be complete this December, with move-in set for the spring of 2020.
Carr-Braint says many issues such as communications and 911 take time.
City council approved the new station at $21 million with a contingency of just over $5 million.
The project includes a communications tower.
Carr-Braint tells Quinte News, “So far so good, touch wood. We haven’t had a whole week of good weather for a while. It’s been a whole muddy soup bowl. Yet we’ve stayed right with it. On time, on budget, so far.”
