Another step has been taken toward a project that would see a major update to two of Belleville’s major transportation routes.
City council has awarded the contract for the environmental assessment and detailed design of the widening of Bell Boulevard to four lanes, west of Sidney street to the Costco development area.
BT Engineering was the only bidder and won the contract with a price tag of $292,160.
Director of Engineering and Development Rod Bovay says the construction work will be combined with work on Sidney Street, from Tracey Street north.
Councillor Paul Carr expressed some concerns to council earlier this week about the company’s performance in the past.
He said there had been some issues with the work for the Maitland Drive project.
Council had the completion targets and penalties included in the contract for the Bell Boulevard work.
Bovay expects construction will begin next year.
