Some time for sober second thought in Prince Edward County means their fire department isn’t getting a new pumper tanker.
Councillor Phil Prinzen revisited the approval motion during their council meeting at Shire Hall last night (Tuesday) and called for a recorded vote.
Council voted during their April 25 meeting to purchase a new pumper tanker for the Wellington station at a cost of over $352,000.
The matter sparked debate between councillors, leading to a deferred decision before approving the motion following a lengthy discussion.
In the recorded vote, Phil St-Jean, Janet Maynard, John Hirsch and Bill McMahon voted in favour of purchasing the new piece of equipment, while the remaining seven councillors in attendance voted nay.
The truck that was to be replaced was slated to be declared surplus and sold, with the proceeds of the sale (approximately $10,000) being put into the fire department’s reserve fund for future capital investments.
