The statue of Sir John A. MacDonald holding court in downtown Picton may be moving, but not much.
The County received a request to declare the property in which the Sir John A. MacDonald holding court statue currently resides.
The report presented to council states staff have no objection to declaring the land surplus and releasing the property but Director of Community Development and Strategic Initiatives Neil Carbone says they will bring forward a report with costs, risks and liabilities to the municipality.
The request was made to allow for The Armoury owners to complete some landscaping that is planned in front of the The Armoury and will also create additional public space on the Picton Library property.
The statue of Canada’s first prime minister will be moved 30 feet to the east to be placed on library property.
The library has agreed to cover the costs of elective work to be done in conjunction with the sculpture relocation.
A report is expected at the next council meeting for enactment.
