In a media scrum during a break in the session, Mayor Mitch Panciuk commented, “This is not something you want to rush into, but this can’t be a hasty decision, we’re talking about the city for the next 30 years and trying to get an understanding of where we want to see our community move from a total community perspective. Not just an annual capital budgets, not just one sector, but in fact everything we do. How can we provide the best quality of life for people in Belleville as we go forward.”
He said the city has operational plans in place.
“They only seem to be on a one-year basis, so we deal with our operating and capital budgets, and we seem to be very reactive to what’s happening that year. I think what you’re going to see coming out of this is there is going to be an appetite for council that would like to have a three-year operational plan, so we don’t have to do everything at once and actually do some things in stages.”
Director of Recreation, Culture and Community Services Mark Fluhrer set out his department’s issues, including the proposed outdoor Sens Rink, and Memorial Arena’s future question.
He’s bringing a report on that question to council soon.
He tells Quinte News, staff will give the best path forward to accomplish the goals council would like to achieve.
