It seems like the Guelph Storm have been fighting from behind throughout the Ontario Hockey League playoffs and now have fought their way into the Memorial Cup.
Belleville’s Anthony Popovich, a graduate of the Quinte Red Devils stopped 23 shots as Guelph blew out the favoured Ottawa 67’s 8-3 in Game 6 to win the J.Ross Robertson Cup.
For the third time in the post season the Storm had to fight from behind to win a series. In round 2 they trailed London 3 games to 0 before coming back to win in 7. In round 3 the were down 3 games to 1 to Saginaw but ralled to win in 7. And in the final it was Ottawa winning the first two games before the Storm reeled off 4 wins in a row. Popovich was in goal for all of it.
The Storm are coached by former Belleville Bulls coaches George Burnett and Jake Grimes. That duo had been with Belleville for 11 seasons.
The Storm hits Halifax for the Memorial Cup which begins on Friday.
