The Field of Ability, an accessible rubberized baseball diamond for children with disabilities, at Belleville’s Parkdale Veterans Park, is one step closer to reality.
Monday night, city council approved the design-and-build contract for Taskforce Engineering.
The company has already provided design and engineering work for the project, free of charge.
The mayor noted it was the only such field between Toronto and Ottawa and praised everyone involved.
The city is providing $440,000, and more than $700,000 has been raised through donations.
The contract will allow for a maximum of $1 million for completion of the project.
