The Hastings County Community and Social Service department is pleased to become involved in any effort to develop the former Quinte Secondary School into a social housing site.
Director of Community and Human Services Erin Rivers tells Quinte News on Thursday the county is partnering in the planning process, following a meeting with city officials earlier this week.
Rivers says there’s uncertainty about the football field at the bottom of the site and it would probably have to stay as a green space.
Earlier this spring, Belleville city council met with officials of the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Education to discuss the possibility of such a project.
The school closed in June of 2018.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk has asked that county staff work with the city to study the idea of possibly turning the former high school into supportive housing, family housing or affordable housing units.
