With many agencies facing funding cutbacks from the provincial government, some municipalities such as Toronto, are being hit with extra costs.
The Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health recently reached into its reserves to cover its extra public health cost this year, caused by provincial cutbacks.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the agencies, such as public heath and Quinte Conservation “need to take a look at their operations and find ways to save money first.”
Panciuk says “This is a difficult situation and we knew that when the previous government’s spending would stop, there would be a price to pay throughout the whole system.”
